Our founding team has built critical data systems at Flock Safety, Bloomberg, Blackstone, Unify, and Attentive. We understand the limits of today’s stack. Galaxy exists to redefine it.

Modern enterprises have data infrastructure, but meaning still lives in fragments. Pipelines move data and dashboards visualize it, yet the core entities, relationships, and processes that define the business are not unified in one evolving system. Galaxy is building that missing layer. A living context graph grounded in an evolving ontology that models how your company truly operates. It transforms data into shared knowledge and becomes the foundation both people and AI agents work from. One model of the business. One source of truth for reasoning, coordination, and execution.

We’re looking for a Founding AI/ML Engineer to help make complex systems feel simple, fluid, and intuitive. This role sits at the intersection of AI infrastructure, product engineering, and distributed systems design. You’ll define how Galaxy’s intelligence works end-to-end, from agent design and orchestration to the way those systems surface insight to users. You’ll translate deep technical power into clarity and flow, shaping behavior from high-level concepts down to tiny interaction details.

This is a true 0 → 1 role. You’ll help define the architecture, the patterns, and the culture around AI at Galaxy.

You will…

• Architect and build agentic systems that reason over structured and unstructured data, metadata, and user intent

• Design and implement LLM- and NLP-powered workflows for discovery, enrichment, validation, and explanation

• Help design and evolve Galaxy’s knowledge graph and ontology layer defining how structured business context is represented and reasoned over

• Own the full AI / ML lifecycle from research and prototyping through evaluation, production deployment, monitoring, and iteration

• Define how intelligence integrates into the product, translating deep AI capabilities into delightful user experiences

• Establish best practices for reliability, observability, evaluation, and safety across AI systems

• Partner directly with founders to shape Galaxy’s AI architecture and long-term technical direction

You might be a great fit if you…

• Have 5+ years building production-grade ML or AI systems

• Are deeply interested in LLMs, reasoning architectures, and the future of agentic systems

• Have designed and shipped complex systems in fast-paced environments

• Have strong backend and systems design fundamentals in Python

• Think carefully about evaluation, failure modes, and reliability in AI systems

• Enjoy operating across infrastructure and product, shaping both architecture and user experience

Bonus points if you…

• Have worked on knowledge management systems, semantic search, or metadata-heavy platforms

• Have experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, or semantic modeling

• Have built AI systems that reason across structured and unstructured data

• Have prior engineering experience in high volume data environments

• Have built something from 0 → 1 as a founder or early engineer

We care deeply about alignment and long-term fit. When possible, we prefer to start with a 2–4 week paid work trial so both sides can experience what it’s actually like to build together. We’re flexible and thoughtful about structure, and we compensate fairly for the trial period.

Salary: $180,000 - $300,000
